Where is the industry at with TTM changes?

12 Mar 2024

Civil Contractors New Zealand Technical Manager Michelle Farrell is CCNZ's representative on the Temporary Traffic Management Industry Steering Group (TTM ISG).

We are now entering a phase of trialling and wider adoption across the country. As the industry improves its understanding of what a risk-based approach to TTM looks like for suppliers, main and subcontractors, planners and RCA’s, and its implications on the whole process from planning and design, through approvals, procurement and implementation.

The TTM ISG has several working groups, including commercial and procurement; assurance and monitoring; good practice; credentials; communications and engagement.

CCNZ is interested in connecting people across the industry and the entire contracting chain, including project managers, company directors, STMS’s – anyone whose work might touch on TTM.

It’s important to bring TTM planning into scope as early as possible, develop great risk management processes (and build on existing), including change management and focus on the 3 C’s: consultation, cooperation, coordination.

We are working on some training for members this year and in the meantime advise CCNZ members to look at your existing risk management processes and how these can be improved and adopted for TTM; to get in touch with recurring issues you’re facing in making the change to a risk-based approach and to look closely at ways to immediately reduce unnecessary TTM, especially on unattended sites.

Send Michelle an email if you’re interested in getting involved in developing training for members, have ideas of what you’d like to see developed, or have any good or bad news stories and examples to share (confidentially).
